"Fullerenes: The Carbon Marvels Shaping Nanotechnology"

International Chemistry Scientist Awards
Fullerenes are a unique class of carbon allotropes characterized by their hollow, cage-like structures composed entirely of carbon atoms arranged in hexagonal and pentagonal patterns, resembling a soccer ball or geodesic dome. The most well-known fullerene is buckminsterfullerene (C₆₀), discovered in 1985 by scientists Harry Kroto, Richard Smalley, and Robert Curl, a breakthrough that earned them the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1996 .
