"Illuminating the Future of Non-Invasive Cancer Therapies"

International Chemistry Scientist Awards

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a minimally invasive therapeutic technique that uses a combination of light-sensitive compounds (photosensitizers), specific wavelengths of light, and oxygen to produce cytotoxic reactive oxygen species. These reactive species selectively destroy cancer cells, pathogens, or abnormal tissues while sparing surrounding healthy cells. PDT is widely used in oncology, dermatology, and ophthalmology and is gaining momentum for antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory applications. Its advantages include spatial selectivity, reduced systemic toxicity, and the ability to be repeated with minimal resistance.
